Rock and Pop Workshops – Freely open to all Eisteddfod Music entrants aged 10 – 18 and to take place between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Edmund Rubbra area of NMPAT. There will be a whole range of workshops across the afternoon and evening led by:-
Luke Flowers (Drummer)
Luke has been a long standing member of the Cinematic Orchestra for seventeen years; touring and performing around the world in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Montreux Jazz Festival, New York Summer Stage and Glastonbury.
As an educator Luke has taught at the RNCM for the past year. He has also worked with students at LIPA, BIMM and Leeds College of Music .

Greg Coulson (Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter)
Greg Coulson is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and gifted performer. An accomplished Pianist and Hammond player he is also a gifted guitarist and singer/songwriter specialising in Rhythm & Blues. 2010 saw the break Greg had been looking for, at the age of 19 he joined the legendary two- tone band The Selecter. Known as a Hammond player, and not just a keyboard player, Greg toured with The Selecter and made over 400 appearances worldwide. Gigs include: Coachella, Riot Fest, Ink and Iron (USA), Isle of Wight Festival (UK) in addition to touring Europe, Scandinavia, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

After leaving The Selecter back in March 2015, Greg landed a leading role in the West End production of, “Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined” at the Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly Circus. An amazing opportunity, that led to playing and performing with Burt Bacharach himself for TV appearances (national) and the opening night at the Criterion.

Luke Machin (Guitarist)
Luke Machin has been playing the guitar ever since he first picked one up at the age of two. With Machin, it’s not the fact that by the time he was 22 he’d played on stages with Jeff Beck, Francis Dunnery, Pain of Salvation or Robert Plant that make him interesting. As soon as you see the man play you know why all these things happened to him. A student of Guthrie Govan, Machin seamlessly combines fluid jazz lines with pyrotechnic shredding to create his trademark sound. Luke is more than a complete guitarist, he’s a complete musician, and with his own Progressive Metal band “Maschine” he’s a composer too.

With Maschine, Luke has composed, engineered and produced 2 studio records both released on German Progressive Rock label ‘Inside Out Music’. They went onto become winners of Prog Magazines ‘Best new band’ readers’ poll and Classic Rock Society’s ‘Best new band award’ with their debut album “Rubidium”. It is of little wonder that he came out of one of Britain’s most prestigious music schools (Brighton Institute Of Modern Music) as “Student Of The Year”.

Later his performance on “The Tangent’s” COMM album earned him a number 2 poll placing in an international guitarist Prog poll that had Steve Hackett (Genesis) as his only peer and achieving a top 10 place for Prog Magazines “Guitarist of the year”. Recently, Machin is wielding his axe once again for supergroup “Kiama” who have just released their debut record earlier this year already earning Luke a top 10 “Best Guitarist” poll from the Classic Rock Society.

Described as a ‘guitarist’s guitarist, Niko Tsonev is also a gifted songwriter and producer standing apart from the pack of new similar artists with his unique personal style and sassy edge. His solo guitar work is a melting pot of Progressive Rock, Djent, Jazz and Classical impressionism.

“Atmospheric instrumental passages and pounding riffs. We are hungry for more!”  Guitarist Magazine, 2018
“Niko Tsonev’s jaw-dropping guitar pyrotechnics are a revelation throughout!”  PROG Magazine UK, 2016
“Tsonev’s guitar depicts sonic landscapes of desolate crystalline beauty and lyrical, near-vocal guitar melodies”.  Total Guitar, 2013
“Not only a fantastic guitarist, but also an amazing composer… ” Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Bumblefoot, Guns N’ Roses, Art Of Anarchy)
“Hip ideas, strong tunes, killer guitar playing.”   Adam Holzman (Miles Davis)

Niko is a versatile performer with credits including artists from various genres:                                                                Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), Mr Fastfinger, Mattias IA Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Christophe Godin, Lifesigns, JJ Grey, Adam Holzman (Miles Davis), Grog Rox (Die So Fluid, Ozzy Osbourne), Samy Bishai (Natacha Atlas), Blake Sonnet, Divided Kingdom Republic, Digitonal and many more.

Voted in the top 4 best progressive rock guitarists for 2016 by PROG Magazine, Tsonev is also a sought-after composer, producer, mixing engineer and music technology specialist. Niko proudly endorses Suhr Guitars, Kemper Amps, Elixir Strings, Hughes & Kettner, TC Electronic, Duesenberg and Wampler.
